1. In 1967, Chung Ju-yung founded Hyundai Motor Company.
Now it’s the auto sales leader in the Korean domestic market and exports vehicles to 190 countries around the world.
2. Hyundai is a modern company – literally.
“Hyundai” comes from the Korean word for “modern” and ties into the company’s commitment to staying modern.
3. Hyundai has been in the U.S. for 30 years.
Hyundai entered the U.S. market in 1986 with the subcompact Excel model.
4. Hyundai doesn’t just design cars, they design beauty.
Hyundai’s design philosophy is one of “fluidic sculpture.” According to the company, “Fluidic sculpture completes nature-inspired designs in the most artistic of methods. Modern and artistic forms that have a life-like beauty to them. Designs created such sincerity and artistic spirit are what fluidic sculpture is all about.”
5. Hyundai became an official sponsor of the NFL in 2015.
They also sponsor numerous college football games through a partnership with IMG.
6. Hyundai is prepared for the zombie apocalypse.
In 2014, Hyundai created a special limited edition Tucson model for fans of the TV show, The Walking Dead. The vehicle was painted ash black with red accent graphics, including red handprints near the rear wheel well. It also came with a Zombie Survival Kit with a Walking Dead-branded backpack, emergency drinking water, biohazard bags, first aid supplies and other items necessary to survive the zombie apocalypse.
7. Hyundai has a program called Blue Link that owners love.
Blue Link connects your car to your smartphone, making it possible for you to start it remotely, set the engine timer, set cabin temperature, lock/unlock your car, navigate to new destinations, and check out the health of your vehicle. The program is complimentary for one year on most new Hyundai vehicles and includes lots of other cool features.
8. Hyundai is a technology leader.
Hyundai was the first automaker to offer the Android Auto smartphone integration system.
9. Hyundai cares about community.
Every time they sell a new car in the U.S., Hyundai donates money to pediatric cancer research through their signature program, Hyundai Hope On Wheels. Since it began in 1998, the company has awarded over $100 million in grants to children’s hospitals across the country.
10. Hyundai has already entered the future.
The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell is the first mass-produced fuel cell vehicle and the first compact SUV to ever offer fuel cell technology; its only emission is water.

Combined, the Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Elantra make up about 50 percent of the company’s sales.
16. Hyundai was recognized for outstanding safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2016.
The Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport, Elantra, and Tucson were awarded Top Safety Pick+, the highest possible rating for front crash prevention in IIHS testing.
17. The 2016 Hyundai Sonata was named by Kelley Blue Book as one of their 10 Most Awarded Cars of 2016.
